To maximise the performance of the Java games, we have written a list of tips that may improve your playing experience.

TIP 1
If the game doesn't appear to be responding to your key presses, click on the applet and try again.

TIP 2
Make sure your browsers Java JIT is enabled. The Java JIT is the 'Just-In-Time' Compiler and is used on Java Applets loaded in by your Web Browser. When the JIT is enabled, your machine will compile your Java into native code before executing it. This means it will run as fast as possible, and give you the best possible game play.

To enable the JIT in Internet Explorer :
a) Go to Tools \ Internet Options \ Advanced Tab.
b) Look for the Microsoft VM section.
c) Make sure the 'JIT compiler for virtual machines' is ticked.
d) Restart your browser if necessary.

To enable the JIT in other browsers :
Please consult the documentation for your browser

TIP 3
Close all other unnecessary background applications.

TIP 4
Make sure you have the latest drivers installed for your video card. Please consult your manufacturer's guide with regards to download locations and installation procedures.

TIP 5
Try altering the colour depth of your desktop. Depending on your video card, you may notice a speed improvement.

TIP 6
AOL Users

You may have trouble using AOL's browser to play our games, this is due to their AWFUL implementation of Java! The more technically proficient among you may like to try Marilyn's useful AOL/Java tips (thanks Marilyn): http://members.aol.com/_ht_a/MMichon/Java.html

Or a quick way around the problems is NOT to use the AOL browser. Simply connect to the Internet as usual, minimise your AOL browser, and use Internet Explorer (or Netscape Navigator) instead!
